Lucinda Williams will co-headline at Merriweather Post Pavilion this SaturdayTUESDAY
We spent some time a couple of years ago watching and talking to members of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes, the blissful ensemble project from Ima Robot’s Alex Ebert. They’re back in all their happy glory tonight at the 9:30 Club Sold Out, 7:00 p.m.
WEDNESDAY
Lee “Scratch” Perry is one of the oldest and most influential names in dub and reggae music. The Jamaican elder statesman of the genre will be with & SubAtomic Soundsystem out at the State Theatre in Falls Church tonight. $22 in advance/$25 day of show, 9:00 p.m.
THURSDAY
A lot of other bands have tried to create a punk-soul-funk fusion but few can match Fishbone in terms of longevity or quality of output. They’ll be at The State Theatre tonight for what’s sure to be a raucous time. $15 in advance/$18 day of show, 8:30 p.m.
9:30 Club: 2 Skinnee J’s, Royal Teeth, SOU Orchestra. $30, 7:00 p.m.
Black Cat: Mewithoutyou, Buried Beds, Imaginary Cities. $15 in advance/$17 day of show, 8:00 p.m.
FRIDAY
Did you miss the Black Keys/Arctic Monkeys double bill a few months back at the Verizon Center? That’s okay because they’re back, this time with a lovely outdoor setting. The bluesy duo already spent some time headlining the Merriweather Post Pavilion at last year’s FreeFest but this will be the first trip to Columbia (that we know of) for the brash Britpop band. $40-$55, 6:30 p.m.
Black Cat: Astra Via (new band with Olivia Mancini and Jarrett Nicolay of Virginia Coalition), Vandaveer, The Beanstalk Library. $12, 9:00 p.m.
Red Palace: La Sera, Beach Week. $10, 9:00 p.m.
Comet Ping Pong: The Yellow Dogs, Washerwoman, Dangerosa. $10, 10:00 p.m.
SATURDAY
Blues singer Lucinda Williams has one of the most distinctive gritty voices, which works well with her evocative catalog. She’s absolutely worth the trip out to Merriweather Post Pavilion if you’ve never seen her…or even if you have. Drive-By Truckers, who have sold out many a 9:30 Club show, will be sharing the headlining spot with Lucinda. $35-$35, 6:30 p.m.
Comet Ping Pong: The Kid Congo Powers Hour (f/ Mark Cisneros, Tom Bunnell and Brendan Canty), GarbageZone, DJ Baby Alcatraz. $10, 10:00 p.m.
Black Cat:: Last Tide (album release), Fire and the Wheel (album release), More Humans, Teenage Aviation. $10, 9:00 p.m.
Rock and Roll Hotel: Penguin Prison, Class Actress, Outputmessage. $15, 9:30 p.m.
SUNDAY
Former Fleet Foxes’ drummer Joshua Tillman may have taken on a new moniker in Father John Misty but with the new persona comes a new heard confidence in his mysterious yet blissful solo material. He’ll be at the Rock and Roll Hotel with another man with a fun stage name: Har Mar Superstar. $12 in advance/$14 day of show, 8:00 p.m.
Galaxy Hut: Lost Civilizations, Loop 2.4.3. $5, 9:00 p.m.
Red Palace: Spirit Animal. $8, 8:30 p.m.
