Marion Barry just can’t catch a break, can he?

Today the mayor-for-life became the butt of a joke when Frederick-based Flying Dog Brewery used an image of him alongside the text “Crack One Open D.C.” on a poster advertising a release party this Saturday at Jack Rose Saloon for its Underdog Atlantic Lager.

The slogan not-so-subtly draws upon Barry’s arrest 22 years ago for smoking crack at the Vista Hotel in downtown D.C. It seems to be drawing praise from commenters on Flying Dog’s Facebook page: “brutal,” “genius” and “hilarious” were used in reaction to the poster. One commenter even tried responding with a famous Barry catch-phrase: “Bitch, set me up…another round.”

We tried getting in touch with the brewery for some commentary as to how they came up with the idea and if they’ve heard any negative reactions, but no one picked up the phone.

The release party is this Saturday from 2-7 p.m.
