In the ultimate collision of memes, tonight and tomorrow the National Zoo, that bottomless vault of cute animals, is bringing in America’s favorite foul-mouthed nonagenarian. Betty White be signing copies of her books tomorrow afternoon at the zoo, including her latest volume, Betty & Friends: My Life at the Zoo, a collection of stories about encounters with animals in her 91 years.

The event tomorrow, unfortunately, is totally booked solid. So is Smithsonian Associates appearance by White tonight at George Washington University’s Lisner Auditorium, where she will engage in a conversation with Sam Litzinger, who hosts WAMU’s The Animal House.

On Friday, White will also receive a private tour of the National Zoo. Perhaps she’ll stop by and marvel at the zoo’s newly unveiled otter family.

White, according to the Smithsonian’s press release, has been keen on our furry friends longer than she’s had a monopoly on being our favorite dirty joke-telling oldster:

As far back as Ms. White can remember, animals were a part of her life, and regular visits to zoos were commonplace. A self-described “zoophile,” she believes deeply in the importance of zoos in saving endangered animals and in educating the public about the plight of wildlife today.

Aw, that’s sweet. And almost as endearing as that time when White shot back to stardom after telling all those nasty jokes at the Comedy Central Roast of William Shatner.
