A long weekend, sunny skies and high temperatures—those factors are exactly what you’d need for a successful inaugural weekend for D.C.’s 19 outdoor public pools.

According to the D.C. Department of Parks and Recreation, some 5,357 people went swimming yesterday alone; Upshur and Banneker pools were both reported to be at capacity during afternoon hours, leaving some residents waiting in line to get in.

It wasn’t all sun-tanning, belly flops and beach balls, though—things got a little unruly at four pools yesterday afternoon. The Banneker, Randall, Ft. Dupont, and Ft. Stanton pools were closed around 5 p.m. due to “rowdy patrons.” Though no fights were reported by DPR, police were called to the scenes; the pools were eventually reopened.

Until June 17, pools will only be open from noon to 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and Sunday; normal operating hours on six days a week kick off thereafter.
