Dish of the Week: Q’s Seoul Bulgogi and Kimchi Hot Dog

Where: DC-3, 423 8th St. SE

A spicy dish isn’t a typical choice on a muggy day. But some dishes just have their way of tickling our fancy.

The Korean marinated barbecued beef, also known as bulgogi, is a good example of how it has become an omnipresent partner in crime in many things devilishly delicious. It can be found inside tacos, mixed up in burrito bowls and topped on a hot dog.

On a butter-grilled loaf, the all-beef hot dog is deluged with an apt amount of thin slices of bulgogi and chunks of kimchi. The drizzled Sriracha sauce on top of a bed of kimchi makes a fiery first bite, but it’s an epicurean pain I prefer to endure.

“How is it?” asks the manager.

“This is the spiciest hot dog I’ve ever had,” I replied, fanning my mouth and taking another healthy bite.

It wouldn’t be devilish if it wasn’t so tempting.

Sandwiches, Cocktails and Art
Tryst Coffeehouse and Lounge in Adams Morgan is also known to be an art gallery of sorts, showcasing a seasonal array of work by local artists on its walls. When the coffeehouse announced that it also found a niche inside the Phillips Collection in DuPont Circle, the news wasn’t quite a surprise. So after ruminating on Vincent van Gogh’s “The Road Menders” or perusing through the new Jasper Johns exhibit, be sure to enjoy Tryst offerings at the courtyard cafe.

Fruit Bat says Farewell…
The H Street NE bar announced that it will close its doors next weekend. The Frozen Tropics blog received a letter from Fruit Bat, stating that a mystery bar will take its place in July.

…While a Dupont Circle Deli Says Hello
A Jewish deli will soon make Dupont Circle its home. Eater DC reports that DGS Delicatessen posted a comical sign outside the 1317 Connecticut Ave. NW storefront announcing its arrival: “For 40 years the Jews wandered the desert. We promise it won’t take that long.”
