>> Today’s the day for Kwame Brown—the former D.C. Council Chair heads to court not once but twice to face plead guilty to charges that he lied on a bank loan application (for money that used to buy a boat called “Bullet Proof”) and knew of an unreported bank account run by relatives that was used for campaign purposes during a 2008 run for office. We’ll be there for the first hearing in U.S. District Court at 11 a.m., where more details about Brown’s bank fraud charge will come to light.
>> It’s intern season and D.C., and WTOP has a handy Intern Tip Sheet for those fresh-eyed college students making their start in town this summer. Our favorite piece of advice, and one that could well be learned by many non-interns in town? “Get rid of all evidence of the night before. No bar stamps on your hand, no ratty hair. If you don’t wash your hair, pull it back.” The Post also has a guide, but this one addressing Metro etiquette.
>> Virginia has committed to provide its $150 million share to the construction of the second phase of Metro’s Silver Line out to Dulles Airport, reports WAMU. The commitment came the day after the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority voted to drop a unionized labor preference that had riled Virginia officials. The trump card is still being held by Loudoun County, though, which could opt out of the project by July. If it does, the second phase could be delayed some 18 months.
Briefly Noted: Irony alert: MoCo cops used convicted felons to gather signatures for referendum to defend collective bargaining rights … Rep. Frank Wolf (R-Va.) wants federal oversight over Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority … Virginia voters don’t think same-sex marriage will affect November vote … Someone snaps candid picture of sleeping D.C. police officer … Group tries to restore Adams Morgan mural.
This Day in DCist: On this day in 2011 Harry Thomas, Jr. stepped down from his committee chairmanship and the (Anthony) Weinermobile drove around D.C. with expired tags. In 2010, our soon-to-be bike-sharing system was given a name.
