Another weekend means another round of closed Metrorail stations and single-tracking corridors. Four out of five lines are affected this weekend, though most of the work is taking place in place in the suburbs.
Out in Virginia, the Orange Line will be closed between West Falls Church and East Falls Church will be closed to accomodate construction on the Silver Line. A replacement shuttle bus will add about 20 minutes to travel time, Metro advises.
Up in Prince George’s County, the Green Line will operate along a single track between College Park and Greenbelt while crews conduct repairs to rail ties. And every other train will terminate at College Park instead of Greenbelt. Riders coming from or going all the way to the end of the line should budget an extra 15 minutes.
Next door in Montgomery County, crews working on the eastern end of the Red Line will be reconstructing platforms and installing fiberoptic cables, resulting in single-track service between Takoma and Forest Glen. Trains between Shady Grove and Glenmont will depart every 20 minutes through the weekend, though between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, additional trains will run between Shady Grove and New York Avenue every 10 minutes, so that’s a relief.
But inside the District, it’s the Blue Line that will receive the maintenance work with the most interesting terminology. Trains will run on a single track between Stadium-Armory and Addison Road while crews repair the “floating concrete slabs” under the rails. Trains in both directions will depart every 20 minutes all weekend.
Everything’s normal on the Yellow Line, though.
