Bryce Harper keeps on collecting big hits. Last night in Toronto, Harper blasted a third-inning home run that soared some 450 feet into the skybox restaurant overlooking the Rogers Centre. The solo shot gave the Nationals their first run in their 4-2 win over the Blue Jays.
Since being called up from the minors, Harper is hitting .307 with a .943 on-base plus slugging percentage. The Post notes that Harper is on pace to have the best Major League Baseball season by any teenager since Mel Ott in 1928.
After the game, Harper looked pretty happy with himself for turning in another stellar rookie performance. And at least one reporter considered geography in asking the right fielder how he planned to celebrate last night’s victory. Harper, of course, is not legally permitted to drink in the United States, but in Canada, where the legal drinking age is 18, he could, if he wished, get boozy.
When a reporter asked if Harper planned to partake in a “celebratory Canadian beer,” Harper chuckled and replied with a line that is sure to be a catchphrase for a long time to come: “That’s a clown question, bro.”
