This week Wal-Mart received building permits for two of the six stores it has planned in D.C., reports the Washington Business Journal.

One of the permits is for a store on Georgia Avenue NW and the other for a store on New Jersey Avenue and H Street NW. The permits certainly didn’t come cheap—the mega retailer paid $123,659.12 for the Georgia Avenue location and $225,000 for the New Jersey Avenue location.

The 106,243-square-foot Georgia Avenue store, located on the site of a former bus barn and car dealership, will likely be the first one to open in D.C., expected at some point in 2013. (The renderings are above.) The other five Wal-Marts—the New Jersey Avenue location, one in Ward 5, and two in Ward 7—are set for 2014, though the Skyland location in Ward 7 could be delayed further.
