FRIDAY

JAZZ: National Gallery of Art’s outdoor Jazz in the Garden series continues this Friday with a performance by the Great Time Jazz Band. 5:00-8:30 p.m. Free.

OUTDOOR MOVIE: Primary Colors plays tonight at the Rossyln Outdoor Film Festival at Gateway Park at the base of the Key Bridge. (1300 Lee Highway.) The showing starts at dusk. Free.

PAT & PICNIC: The Pat McGee Trio will perform tonight and Chef Brian McPherson will prepare a picnic style pig roast in the courtyard for concert attendees at Jackson 20 (480 King Street, Alexandria, VA). 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $55.

BEAT BOX: The Balkan Beat Box is at the 9:30 Club tonight. We spoke to them yesterday. 8 p.m. $22.

SATURDAY

BEER & BIKES: New Belgium Brewery is bringing its annual bicycling festival, the Tour de Fat, to D.C. for the first time today. So what is it? A “thrilling rite of passage that includes an unparalleled costumed bicycle parade, New Belgium beer, eccentric entertainment, local food, unusual bike contests and much more.” The bike parade kicks off from Yards Park (10 Water Street, SE) at 10 a.m., so get there early to register. Free.

PILATES & POSTE: Today’s the first day of Poste Moderne Brasserie’s “Pilates on the Patio,” a 45-minute class taught by prominent Pilates instructor, Chauna Bryant, a former employee at Poste. After the class, stay for a well-deserved glass of complimentary sparkling wine. 10 a.m. $19, and you should buy tickets ahead of time here.

ARM WRESTLING: Eight lady arm wrestlers from eight Collectives of Lady Arm Wrestlers (CLAW) across the country (Austin, Brooklyn, Charlottesville, Chicago, D.C., Durham, Hudson Valley, and New Orleans) will complete in the first ever SuperCLAW championship in Charlottesville’s Jefferson Theater this Saturday. Watch the bout live with the D.C. Lady Arm Wrestlers at the American Legion Post 8 (224 D Street SE) and cheer on D.C.’s lady arm wrestling representative Amy Smackhouse. 8:30 p.m. $5.

SMELLS LIKE TEEN SPIRIT: High school bands from across the region will participate in a teen-produced Battle of the Bands at Artisphere (1101 Wilson Boulevard, Arlington VA). The event is produced solely by Artisphere’s Teen Work Experience Program, which connects local teens to arts professionals. 6 p.m. $5.

VARIETY: The next edition of The Capital City Showcase kicks off tonight at 10 p.m. at D.C. Arts Center in Adams-Morgan (2438 18th Street NW). On the schedule is The Deb Felz Band and comedians Will Hessler, Kyle Martin, Jenn Tisdale, and Gave Zucker. $10 here, $15 at the door.

SUNDAY

KNITTING: Did you know this Sunday is World Wide Knit in Public Day? Grab your needles and yarn and head to The Textile Museum (2320 S Street NW) to knit with fellow crafty folks. 1:00-5:00 p.m.

RECORDS: Today The Fillmore in Silver Spring is hosting the D.C. Record Fair, which will feature over 40 records vendors coming from up and down the East Coast. Early admission is $5 from 11 a.m. to noon. Regular admission is $2 from noon to 5 p.m.

COMEDY: As the Caribbean community in the United States celebrates National Caribbean American Heritage Month this month, Washington, D.C.-based Caribbeana Communications, Inc. (CCI) will host its 24th national Caribbeana Comedy Festival at Howard University’s Cramton Auditorium (2455 Sixth Street NW) to help bridge Caribbean and American cultures together through comedy.
