>> Talk about loopholes. The Post reports on a Maryland law forbidding sexual contact between school employees and students, but notes a glaring loophole—the law only technically covers full-time employees, saying nothing of part-time school employees. Two recent cases in which school employees engaged in sexual acts with students have highlighted the extent of the loophole, with one full-time teacher being sent to prison for seven years and a part-time coach having all charges against him dropped despite similar allegations.

>> Disgraced former Ward 5 councilmember Harry Thomas Jr. is set to report to federal prison in Alabama this week to start a 38-month-long sentence for stealing city funds. And though he picked a federal facility known for being good, the Examiner reports that he’ll be shocked with the change in lifestyle he’ll quickly encounter while there. From the initial full cavity search to the 5:15 a.m. wake-call and job that may only pay 23 cents an hour, Thomas will be living a very different life than he became used to as he stole $353,000 from the city.

>> Route 1 in Hyattsville is losing a lane of traffic, but that’s a good thing. WTOP reports that the town just south of College Park will be turning a lane of traffic into on-street parking outside of rush hour as a means to accommodate the new businesses and residential buildings that are quickly popping up in the area.
