As we wrote recently, Councilmember Marion Barry (D-Ward 8) has a new communications director, former journalist an TV personality LaToya Foster. Today Barry’s office made the pick official, announcing in a press release that Foster would be coming on board to serve as Barry’s spokesperson.

In the release, Foster expressed her pleasure with the appointment, referring to Barry not only as D.C.’s mayor-for-life, but also Ward 8’s “Commander-in-Chief”:

“It is an honor to serve Washington’s “Mayor for Life” and Ward Eight’s Commander-in-Chief,” she said in the press release. “I look forward to working closely with the council member, as well as the media and the residents and businesses of Ward 8.”

We’ll be updating the DCist Style Guide to reflect the change; goodbye mayor-for-life, hello Ward 8 Commander-in-Chief!
