>> Mayor Vince Gray yesterday appointed Michael Kelly, the former director of the D.C. Housing Authority, to head up the Department of Housing and Community Development, Housing Complex reports. Kelly, who ran DCHA for nine years, had been in New York overseeing that city’s equivalent agency. He replaces John Hall, who was unprepared to handle the rigors of running an agency that a recent Post investigation found to be rife with irregularities and bureaucratic decay.
>> Yeah, candidates are starting to file for the special election for D.C. Council Chair, but the hot races are at the State Board of Education, Mike DeBonis writes. With at-large member Ted Trabue not running for another term, a game of musical chairs has been uncorked, with a collection of current board members and education activists jockeying for new positions.
>> Even though an angry, 1,000-strong horde outside disagreed, the University of Virginia’s Board of Visitors stood by its unpopular and murky decision to dump President Teresa Sullivan, WAMU reports.
