Tomorrow morning, the federal prison camp in Montgomery, Ala. will process inmate No. 31866-016, better known as Harry Thomas Jr. Before boarding a flight to Alabama with his family today, Thomas, the former D.C. Council member representing Ward 5, spoke with The Washington Times about his last days before beginning the 38 months in prison he was sentenced to after pleading guilty to stealing more than $350,000 in District funds earmarked for youth sports.

In the interview with the Times’ Deborah Simmons, Thomas talked about “getting things in order for his family” before he begins his prison term. Thomas, the Times reports, says he did or hopes to do the following:

“I roasted marshmallows with my daughters,” he said. “Dealt with the lawn. Those things I’d always dealt with.”

He also hopes to “go by the cemetery” to visit the gravesite of his late father, Harry Sr., a former D.C. Council member who died in 1999 and was buried in Fort Lincoln Cemetery.

Thomas was also surprised to see his uncle and baseball mentor Leroy “Shotgun” Sanford attend his going-away gathering last Friday at Michigan Park Christian Church.

The Times also reports that Thomas, jokingly, has some job prospects lined up for when he gets out of jail in August 2015. By then, Costco will have opened its first D.C. location in the Fort Lincoln neighborhood. “It’ll be open by the time I get home,” Thomas tells the Times, “when I’ll be looking for a job.”
