Reunion tours everywhere these days. Bands you once thought you would never see live like The Refused and At the Drive-In are coming back for a second or third round. (Or, consider the Pixies, who at this point have been “reunited” for much longer than their original run lasted.) So you can’t blame a band like the Hot Snakes for wanting another turn. They only called it quits in 2005 and re-formed in 2011, which really isn’t that long, especially since Fiona Apple took that long to release a new album. Rick Froberg and John Reis previously bashed skulls with Pitchfork and Drive lIke Jehu before Reis formed Rocket to the Crypt. After some time off the buddies got back together in 1999 to form The Hot Snakes. The ferocious band released three albums of post-hardcore bliss before calling it a day, but if you missed them the last time they are playing a very sold-out show at Rock and Roll Hotel tonight. Today’s song of the day is one of my favorite songs from the band. “Paid in Cigarettes,” a track from their second, and best, album, Suicide invoice is a track made for slam-dancing, fist-pumping and kicking shit in. Froberg’s vocals are perfectly mixed with drummer Mario Rubalcaba’s (previously in Rocket to the Crypt, but now in punk supergroup OFF!) head-banging drum hits. To get more local, the track name checks Mount Pleasant. If you were lucky enough to get a ticket you are in for a treat. If not, there is always Craiglist.

The Hot Snakes play tonight at the Rock and Roll Hotel with History Repeated and Last Year’s Men. Tickets are Sold Out..
