Fort Reno is a D.C. institution, and tonight The Torches headline the stage bringing their 7-piece bluegrass-meets-indie rock to the sweaty crowd hanging out in the park. The Torches, who we interviewed in April, have played almost every stage in the area. If you haven’t caught on of their shows you need to. The band, led by Stephen J. Perron Guidry, cranks out lovely compositions with strings and multi-part harmonies. Today’s song of the day “My Former Baby (Mine)” is a doo-wop-inspired track that fades out with a hoedown. Guidry’s gravelly vocals, mixing Bruce Springsteen and Tom Waits, add a little bit of grit to the bouncy song.

The Torches play tonight at Fort Reno with Musicband and The NV’s. As always it is free.
