A teenager from Herndon, Va. was arrested Saturday in connection with a recent spate of knife attacks on cute, cuddly animals at Northern Virginia petting zoo, Fairfax County Police said.
Earlier this year, creatures residing at Frying Pan Farm Park were slashed in a string of incidents. In April, three horses that are used for animal therapy were found to have suffered large knife wounds. About a month later, four critters—two goats, a calf and a chicken—at the park’s Kidwell Barn petting zoo were slashed.
The animals at Kidwell Barn are a popular attraction for the many families and tour groups that visit the park. The day after the May slashing incident, the wounded creatures were back roaming around, albeit heavily bandaged and stitched up as they recuperated from the attacks.
The teenager arrested Saturday is charged with four felony counts of maiming animals, three misdemeanor counts of cruelty to animals and two counts of unlawful entry. The 17-year-old boy was arrested after the park’s staff and visitors maintained the case’s public visibility, police said.
