DANCE: The Tuahine Troupe a group from the University of Hawaii that performs traditional Hawaiian music and dance, comes to the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage (2700 F Street NW) today. 6:00 p.m. Free.

OUTDOOR MOVIE: It’ll be mildly less oppressive outside once the sun sets, so head over to Gateway Park at the base of the Key Bridge (1300 Lee Highway, Arlington) for the weekly Rosslyn Outdoor Film Festival. Today it’s The American President.

FOOD & DRINK: José Andrés and his team at Oyamel Cocina Mexicana (401 Seventh Street NW) are offering a unique menu to celebrate the birthday of one of Mexico’s most famous artists, Frida Kahlo. Starting tonight, Kahlo’s birthday, to July 13, Oyamel will showcase a unique menu inspired by a birthday dinner she made for herself in 1942 at her home “La Casa Azul” in Coyoacán, a neighborhood of Mexico City. The special menu items and cocktails inspired by her birthday will be available for one week, and the restaurant with showcase an altar dedicated to this legend.

ON THE FRINGE: Love it or hate it, the annual Capital Fringe Festival (607 New York Avenue NW) is an institution in D.C.’s theater scene. Tonight is the preview, where you’ll get to see excerpts from 30 of the 134 shows that are part of the festival this. 8:00 p.m. Free.

JAZZ: If you can stand to be outside this evening, Jazz in the Garden is on again. Tonight it’s the Afro Bop Alliance. 5:00 p.m. Free.

HUG IT OUT: Weather got you down? Overwhelmed by work? Amma—the Hindu spiritual leader and guru known globally for her hugs—will be in town today, offering her famous hugs at the Hilton Alexandria Mark Center (5000 Seminary Road, Alexandria). The lines form at 8 a.m., and hugs at 10:30 a.m. Free.

GO-GO: The Smithsonian Folklife Festival pays tribute to the late and great Chuck Brown, the Godfather of Go-Go. All the details are here. Free.

MERIDIAN HILL SWAPPING: Come to Meridian Hill Park at noon for an afternoon of book and clothing swaps, musical jam sessions, hugs and yoga, photography, and much more as part of the Day of Connection and Exchange. Free.

BE CRABBY: There aren’t many Maryland crabs this year, so get your share before they run out! Dupont Circle’s Frontpage (1333 New Hampshire Avenue NW) is hosting a Crab Fest—for $19.50 a person you get a dozen Maryland Blue Crabs, unlimited cole slaw and unlimited corn on the cob. 4:30 p.m.

SUNDAY’S FOR COMIC STRIPS: When we were growing up, Sunday’s newspaper was always the best—the weekly comic strip section came. Today you can listen to people who didn’t only love reading comics, but also love creating them. Six comic strip creators will participate in “Comics in the District: A Discussion with Local Creators” at Curls Studio (1529 16th Street NW). 5:15 p.m. Free.
