DCist’s Arts Editor Kelly Rand has been with us for quite a while, organizing and overseeing everything from the weekly Arts Agenda to monthly museum roundups. At the same time, though, she’s had a day job, and now she can add one more bullet point to her resume: published author.

Today marks the publication date of Kelly’s first book, Handmade To Sell: Hello Craft’s Guide to Owning, Running, and Growing Your Crafty Biz. The book follows her work at Hello Craft, a non-profit trade association dedicated to the advancement of independent crafters and the handmade movement, as well as empowering small business owners and educating the public to the benefits of buying handmade. Looking back through the dusty DCist archives, Kelly is the first DCist contributor to publish a book, though former editor-in-chief Ryan Avent did publish one after he had left us.

You can buy the book at all of the usual places—we recommend a local bookstore like Politics and Prose or Kramer’s; if they don’t have it, ask them to carry it!—or you can come to a happy hour book party tonight at Churchkey from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. RSVP here.
