>> Learning pays off, doesn’t it? The Examiner reports that the D.C. public school system is paying 305 students to attend summer school this year. The program—which pays the students $5.25 an hour—targets students who might not otherwise graduate in four years. This isn’t the first time that DCPS has tried paying students—in 2008 and 2009, some 3,000 middle school students were paid up to $100 a month for keeping up their grades.
>> Mayor Vince Gray’s son gets paid to have a good time, it seems. The Washington Times reports that on top of his regular job at the D.C. Housing Authority, mayoral son Carlos Gray also works by night promoting various liquor brands. Additionally, the younger Gray’s partying lifestyle has often landed him at the Stadium Club, a strip club in Northeast D.C.
>> The man accused of threatening a Colorado-style shooting at his workplace won’t be charged until he’s released from the hospital, where he’s currently being evaluated. The Post reports that 28-year-old Neil Prescott could receive mental health care throughout the week, delaying any formal state and federal charges against him. Last Thursday Prescott’s home was raided by police, who found over 20 guns and boxes of ammunition that Prescott was allegedly going to use on a rampage at his workplace.

This Day in DCist: On this day in 2011, Gray demanded confidentiality for a government-wide performance review. In 2010, the Post endorsed Adrian Fenty for mayor.
