Erykah Badu Friday:
>> Millie Jackson is nothing short of an original. Having developed the assertive, and often bawdy, character artists such as Lil’ Kim and Mary J. Blige have emulated over the years, Jackson is also strong vocalist. She’ll bring her act to the Howard Theatre with Al Johnson of The Unifics. $45 in advance / $50 at the door. 6 p.m.
>> This edition of “Red Fridays” at U Street Music Hall features Baltimoreans Ultra Naté and DJ Lisa Moody bringing their Deep Sugar party back to D.C. Joining them will be D.C.-based house music specialist, DJ Chris Burns. $5. 10 p.m.
Saturday:
>> With fall coming just around the corner, outdoor concerts like the “Summer Spirit Festival” help add a cap to the year’s warm season. Erykah Badu headlines the show at Merriweather Post Pavilion with Common, Chuck Brown’s Band, Estelle, Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings and Eric Roberson. $44-$125. 3 p.m.
>> The OFWGKTA off-shoots have been making a name for themselves lately and The Internet look to follow suit. Comprised of Syd Tha Kid and Matthew Martians, the two producers have taken to making electronic soul music with Syd handling most of the vocals. They’ll be at the U Street Music Hall along with Kilo Kish. $15. 6:30 p.m.
Sunday:
