Ted NugentWEDNESDAY
Tonight, U Street Music Hall dares you to dust off your dancing shoes with a rare club appearance by U.K. producer/performer Gold Panda along with Ghostly International label mates Shigeto and Beacon. 9:00 p.m., $15.
>>9:30: Bombay Bicycle Club, Plants and Animals. 7:00 p.m., $20.
THURSDAY
D.C. music enthusiasts take note: tonight is the last show in this season’s Fort Reno concert series, and it’s a doozy. D.C.’s answer to Tony Clifton, Ian Sveonious, will be holding court with his latest project Chain & the Gang, along with Manta Ray and Triage. Keep your fingers crossed for sunshine (though not too much heat)—Sveonious needs to breathe in his polyester suit. 7:00 p.m., Free.
>>9:30: Old Crow Medicine Show, The Lumineers, The Milk Carton Kids. 7:00 p.m., Sold Out. (This show plays on Friday and is also sold out).
FRIDAY
Dust off your Gadsden flag and Nancy Pelosi joke book, because Ted Nugent is coming to the Fillmore Silver Spring to do what the Motor City Madmen does best: make incendiary political statements while playing cut-out bin classics from four decades ago. At least someone is still listening, right? 8:00 p.m., $30.
>>Rock and Roll Hotel: Civil Twilight, A Silent Film, Anchor and Braille. 8:00 p.m., $15.
SATURDAY
Outside of the aforementioned Fort Reno, there is no more beloved D.C. institution than Run for Cover, the annual benefit cover show at the Black Cat. This year’s festivities will benefit a very worth cause in Girls Rock! DC. Given this year’s flyer, I’d revisit some classics to ensure you don’t get left out of some sweaty sing-a-longs. 8:00 p.m., $10.
>>Merriweather Post Pavilion: Summer Spirit Festival with Erykah Badu, Common, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, Estelle and more. 3:00 p.m., $44-125.
SUNDAY
Backpack rap has always been an ungainly descriptor, nearly as reviled as chillwave and screamo. Luckily, one of the unfortunately-titled genre’s stalwarts–Aesop Rock–has outlived the hype surrounding the label; Aesop released his 5th album Skelethon just last month following a self-imposed hiatus. Joining him at 9:30 will be Rob Sonic, DJ Big Wiz, Edison, and Dark Time Sunshine. 7:00 p.m., $20.
>>Red Palace: Bear Hands, Fort Lean, Zulu Pearls. 8:30 p.m., $10.
