The City Paper’s Loose Lips digs up an old favorite—the fully-loaded luxury SUV that former D.C. Council Chair Kwame Brown demanded as a perk of the position. Specifically, Loose Lips does some math and calculates exactly what the city ended up paying to lease—and then quickly un-lease—the two SUVs Brown ended up getting. (He rejected the first because it wasn’t black-on-black, forcing the city to get him a second one.) The final cost?

Now that everything appears settled, the final cost by LL’s count for the two Navigators comes to $33,613.51, and that’s not counting the sizable amount of labor that went into ordering the SUVs, holding hearings on the SUVs, and ultimately returning the SUVs.

At the height of the scandal, Brown promised to pay the city back. But given his recent financial troubles and lack of employment, we doubt that will happen.
