FRIDAY

DISSENT: A bunch of bands are getting together outside the Russian Embassy (2650 Wisconsin Avenue NW) to play in protest of the prosecution of the punk band Pussy Riot, three of whose members are currently on trial in Moscow for performing a protest song inside an Orthodox church. With War on Women, Mobius Strip, Brenda and Sad Bones. At 5:15 p.m.

NEW BEER: Couldn’t make it to Churchkey on Thursday for the debut of 3 Stars Brewing Company? No worries. D.C.’s newest brewery is having another party tonight at the Big Hunt (1345 Connecticut Avenue NW).

CLUSTERTRUCK: Today is a Truckeroo day, which means a whole bunch of D.C.’s food trucks are assembled together down at the corner of Half and M Streets SE. They’ll be out there until 11 p.m.

SHARK WEEK: Ready for Discovery’s annual celebration of all things shark? Head up to Fountain Plaza in Silver Spring tonight for a screening of Sharkzilla at 8:30 p.m. Don’t forget to say helo to Chompie.

SATURDAY

ANTONIONI: This week marks the centenary of the birth of the great Italian director Michelangelo Antonioni. The National Gallery of Art celebrates the anniversary with screenings of several of his best films. See this week’s Popcorn & Candy for all the details.

ACK, HIPSTERS!: The Columbia Heights pseudo-dive Red Derby (3718 14th Street NW) hosts its annual Derby Prom. Yeah, there’s something nagging about hipsters playing teenage dress-up, but it’s for charity, so dust off those ironic tiaras and boutonnieres and hit the dance floor.

HARDCORE MUCH?: If you’ve got nothing else to do on Saturday night, consider heading over to the Black Cat (1811 14th Street NW) to catch a band called Violent Bullshit. We swear we’re not making this up. $10.

SUNDAY

BREWS CRUISE: D.C. Beer Week begins Sunday with the annual three-hour beer cruise along the Potomac. A couple dozen breweries will be pouring their wares, and there will also be a buffet and dancing. Departs 5 p.m. from Gangplank Marina (6th and Water Streets SW). $125.

MUSIC AND WINE: D.C. goth-rockers Lenorable play with Charlottesville’s Manorlady at SOVA (1359 H Street NE). Free.

REGGAETON: Early 2000s hit-maker Daddy Yankee is still going at it, and is promoting an upcoming LP, Prestige. He’ll be at Ibiza (1222 First Street NE) at 8 p.m. $50.
