A driver in Fairfax County died today after his car crashed into a police cruiser in an early-morning collision. The officer driving the police vehicle was hospitalized.
The crash happened about 3 a.m. when the driver of a 2006 Infinit traveling westbound on Franconia Road swerved left into the oncoming lane and into the path of the Fairfax County Police vehicle, WTOP reports. The car burst into flames and the driver of the Infiniti was declared dead on site, police said.
The police officer involved in the collision is being treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said. The deceased driver has not been identified.
