>> Ivy City, a small, underdeveloped neighborhood in far Northeast, wants more respect from the rest of the District, the Post reports. The 1.7-square-mile tract is one of the poorest sections of D.C. and used as a parking lot for city vehicles. Residents would like some improvements, but the intercity bus depot the District is planning on building is not what they have in mind.
>> The Maryland Senate approved a bill expanding casino gambling Friday, but the House of Delegates is still working on its version of the measure. The subcommittee with jurisdiction over the bill couldn’t finish up on Saturday, but a vote could happen later today, WAMU reports.
>> A commuter tax could raise as much as $1.2 billion for District coffers, but Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) is the latest suburban House member to oppose the idea, in an interview with The Baltimore Sun. Other members of Congress from Maryland and Virginia also oppose taxing out-of-District residents who earn income here, though it’s supported by D.C.’s Democratic elected officials as well as House Oversight Chairman Darrell Issa, a California Republican.
