MONDAY

Grab your wand and don your preferred Hogwarts house colors Muggles, Wizard rock pioneers Harry and the Potters will bring their J.K. Rowling-inspired rock and roll to the Black Cat mainstage. The Massachusetts based band is bringing the Potter Puppet Pals to open the show. 7 p.m. $15.

WEDNESDAY

The State Department are calling it a day. The noisy D.C. band, who recently released their last batch of songs, will be headlining their final show at the U Street Music Hall. Rounding out the bill are Imperial China and Typefighter. 7 p.m. $10.

THURSDAY

Chicago instrumental-metal trio Russian Circles is returning to the Rock & Roll Hotel on a victory lap of last year’s Empros. They’ll be joined by Chelsea Wolfe and Marriages. 7 p.m. $14.

FRIDAY

Dirty Projectors latest album Swing Lo Magellan is arguably one of the best albums of the summer. To close out the season, the band will celebrate its sixth release with a two-night residency at the 9:30 Club. Baltimore’s Wye Oak will open. 8 p.m. Sold Out.

SATURDAY

A staple of the H Street corridor, the Rock and Roll Hotel, is turning six this weekend. To celebrate, the venue is having a show headlined by John Stabb’s (of Government Issue) latest project History Repeated. Teen punk darlings The Black Sparks and emo revivalists Monument kick off the birthday party. 8 p.m. $10.

Long Beach, California punks Joyce Manor are making their D.C. debut at The Black Cat after making stops in Baltimore during their past tours through the region. The band recently released another strong batch of chaotic pop punk gems for their second full-length Of All Things I Will Soon Grow Tired. Algernon Cadwallader and The Max Levine Ensemble round out the show. 8 p.m. $10.
