>> The impending deep cuts to the federal budget—called sequestration by legislators—could have grave effects on the travel industry, WAMU reports. Under the cuts set to take effect in January 2013 unless Congress can figure out a long-term deficit reduction plan, the Federal Aviation Administration stands to lose $1 billion from its nearly $16 billion budget. That would mean far fewer air traffic controllers and, in turn, far fewer commercial flights.

>> A new survey that measures the affordability of housing units says that homes in the greater Washington area are becoming less affordable relative to residents’ incomes, the Post reports. The study found that 73.3 percent of homes sold in the D.C. region were considered affordable.

>> The D.C. inspector general says that D.C. Public Schools undercut its own efforts to curb truancy when it fired counselors whose jobs had exactly that purpose, the Examiner reports.
