>> No surprise here: the man accused of shooting a security guard at the D.C. offices of the Family Research Council has been ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation, reports the Post. Floyd Lee Corkins is accused of walking into the office with a gun and back full of Chick-fil-A sandwiches before opening fire; he said he opposed the group’s politics.

>> Not that you’d be dumb enough to try—have you seen how steep Metro stations are?—but the City Paper reports that yes, sliding down the middle section between escalators is against the rules.

>> Does it pay to work for the D.C. Council? It depends on which councilmember you work for. The Examiner reports that Councilmember Jack Evans (D-Ward 2) pays his staffers best, with their annual pay averaging $85,182. Councilmember Michael Brown’s (I-At Large) staff comes in second at $75,641, while Councilmember Jim Graham’s (D-Ward 1) sit at the bottom with pay of $60,976. The Examiner also found that 37 people that work for the council make more than six figures, while 19 make less than $42,000.

Briefly Noted: Virginia farmers’ markets will soon get food stamp machines … Herndon horse slasher convicted … Maryland court will decide whether two ballot initiatives make it to November … Want to adopt a third dog in Fairfax County? You better have a really big house … Frederick County school buses to get cameras.

This Day in DCist: On this day in 2011, we got a first glimpse of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial and evil bastards were kidnapping dogs. In 2010, we learned that 2,600 residents changed their party affiliation and the days of proportional response ended.
