Wye Oak is one of the hardest working bands on the scene, and its momentum is not letting up. Currently, the band is supporting the Dirty Projectors on its U.S. tour, which stops by 9:30 Club tonight and tomorrow for two very sold out shows. The good news is that they will be coming back to D.C. on September 23 to headline at the Black Cat. This is all while prepping new material, and front woman Jenn Wasner is still working on her solo project, Flock of Dimes.
Today’s song of the day is a new song from Wye Oak released by Adult Swim for its annual singles series. “Spiral” is a new look for the band. The nearly six-minute track is a hypnotic blend of marimba loops and digital processing, with Wasner’s sultry voice manipulated to a point where it is almost unrecognizable. Supposedly the band’s new material is following suit with this transformation, and let’s hope all its new tracks are of this high quality.
Wye Oak play with Dirty Projectors tonight and tomorrow at the 9:30 Club. Tickets are sold out.
