D.C. lawmakers are planning to regulate private companies or individuals holding outdoor fitness classes at city parks. “‘There’s two ways to look at this: one way is you’re providing a service. It’s great you are offering something otherwise not being offered for people to get fit and healthy,’ says D.C. Council member Tommy Wells. ‘The other way to look at it is you are making money, and shouldn’t you share some of that revenue with the government?'” [WAMU]

Many Capitol Hill workers are saddened by a homeless man’s death. “[Peter] Bis was a familiar figure on the Senate side of the Capitol Hill neighborhood. He took pride in the neighborhood he called home, protecting those on his block from people he thought were up to no good, and in turn, neighbors in the area would provide him with money, clothes and food…” [Roll Call]

Six people in Maryland have been struck with swine flu. “The strain is the same that has been found recently in eight other states, including West Virginia and Pennsylvania. It was first detected last year, and beginning in July, there have been 224 reported cases, eight hospitalizations and no deaths.” [NBC4]
