I’m a cat, and I vote! Photo by Mr. T in DC
At the re-opening of the S Street Dog Park in Dupont Circle yesterday, Mayor Vince Gray tossed out some political red meat for the all-powerful D.C. cat lobby: cat parks.
“I’m not a dog owner anymore,” Gray admitted in remarks at the ceremony. “I used to have two dogs. They now have gone on. But I do have a cat, and we have no cat parks…yet.”
Gray said that there are currently nine dog parks in D.C., with four more in the works. An estimated 25 percent of residents own a dog, he added. (Disclosure: I am one of those.) Cats, though, have no special city-funded accommodations. And they likely won’t be getting them—Gray was speaking in jest. (Well, we think.)
That being said, every now and then I see a cat-owner towing around their feline friend on a leash. The cats rarely look happy to be outside, much less being walked around on a leash.
