Aw, shucks. We were all set to monitor the live-tweeting of the National Zoo’s ultrasound of female giant panda Mei Xiang, who could possibly be pregnant. But alas.

The critical passage in the zoo’s press release announcing the ultrasound and corresponding live-tweeting noted that the procedure would only be carried out “as long as Mei Xiang cooperates.”

She did not cooperate. Instead of ambling over to the veterinarians’ station, Mei Xiang remained cozied up in her panda place. So there will be no ultrasound today, and no live-tweeting to go with it.

But don’t worry, the zoo is going to try again tomorrow! Beginning at 8 a.m., the veterinarians will resume their efforts to determine whether that artificial insemination in April took hold or if, as in the last five instances Mei Xiang has been suspected of being with child, she’s actually pseudopregnant.
