Is there any weirder label for the electro-folk outfit Hundred Waters to be on then Skrillex’s OWSLA imprint? Probably not, but while people knock the Grammy award-winning DJs’ music, you can’t knock his taste.

Hundred Waters quietly self-released its debut album this year, but the recent OWSLA signees are riding high now after supporting their label boss, Diplo and Grimes, on the Full Flex Tour. The band is prepping a wide distribution release of its debut, but starting things off with a remix EP for their single “Thistle.” The band will be in D.C. Sunday supporting yesterday’s song of the day singer Julia Holter, so why not give Hundred Waters a spotlight?

“Thistle” is a gorgeous sample-layered piece that is both immediate but rewards multiple listens. The vocals flutter in and out, sometimes being mistaken for the piano and synth lines, while a gurgling drum skitters in and out. There are no “drops,” but that isn’t the kind of music Hundred Waters make. The track is also perfectly suited for the five remixes that follow the track—especially the outstanding Star Slinger and AraabMuzik mixes.
