If summer is all about Jazz in the Garden, barbecues and outdoor films, the fall months are all about fairs and festivals. As the weather cools, neighborhoods around town gather to celebrate themselves with art, crafts, performances, and all the jerk chicken you can eat (and lots more great food).
The fall festival season kicks off in earnest this Sunday with the 34th Annual Adams Morgan Day, followed on Saturday, September 15 with the edgier and extremely popular H Street NE Festival.
Saturday, September 22 will be a busy day, with the Third Annual 17th Street Festival and the Barracks Row Fall Festival set to take place. Additionally, this year the D.C. State Fair will coincide with the Barracks Row Festival.
The next day is Fiesta D.C.’s turn, though as we reported earlier this summer, the annual Latino festival has left Mt. Pleasant and will instead take place on Pennsylvania Avenue. Closing out the month on September 29 is the Second Annual Southwest Waterfront Arts Festival.
On October 6, it’s time for the Sixth Annual Columbia Heights Day, while Crafty Bastards is moving to November 10—and moving indoors.
In some non-neighborhood options, there’s VegFest (September 22), the Hyattsville Arts Festival (September 22), the National Book Festival (September 22-23), Taste of D.C. (October 6-8), and the not-to-be-missed Maryland Renaissance Festival (now through October 21).
If we’ve missed any, let us know and we’ll add them in.
