Of all the iconic photographs you could take in D.C., one of the best may be catching a dramatic sunset over the Lincoln Memorial. Not only does the sky turn a majestic shade of orange, but the colors are mirrored off of the Reflecting Pool that stretches out in front of the memorial.
For two years, though, photographers and tourists alike didn’t have much to work with. From 2010 until just last week, the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool was an unsightly construction site, breaking the otherwise smooth sight-lines from the memorial to the Washington Monument.
The $34 million worth of work was necessary, and for the best. The pool reopened to the public last week, and already we’re starting to see the very photographs of the Reflecting Pool that fell off after construction started in 2010.
So break out the cameras again and start snapping away—and, of course, upload your shots to our Flickr pool.
