Deerhoof not only challenges the audience, but also challenges itself to make music that is anything but predictable. Over the course of eleven albums, the San Francisco band has experimented with every genre of music, making records that are not only incomparable to the album before but incomparable to anything else.
The band just released its latest album, Breakup Song, yesterday (which if you haven’t seen the band, you should check out these promos for the album), and tonight the band is playing the Black Cat.
Today’s song of the day, “Fête d’Adieu,” is a less spastic cut that locks into a synth-aided groove, with singer Satomi Matsuzaki’s four lyrics repeated over and over.
Deerhoof plays tonight with Dope Body and America Hearts at the Black Cat. Tickets are $15.
