September may mean school is back in session, but the month is still ripe for outdoor festivals that keep up the summer vibe. Four music-food-booze-fun-filled events will be taking place within the Beltway this weekend. If you’re headed to one or more of these places, please be aware of the metro and road closures slamming the transportation system.
Rosslyn Jazz Festival will feature four performers from all of the country this afternoon. Saxophonist and composer Joshua Redman will headline the event. The festival is free.
When: Sept. 8, Saturday, 1 – 5:25 p.m.
Where: Gateway Park in Northern Virginia’s Rosslyn area (just two blocks from the Rosslyn Metro at 1300 Lee Highway, at the foot of the Key Bridge)
Metro: Rosslyn Metro, Blue or Orange Line
Old Town Alexandria will be an outdoor gallery this weekend at the Alexandria King Street Art Festival. According to the website, the event will feature “more than 200 artists from the US and abroad.”

Adams Morgan Day takes over the neighborhood’s 18th Street strip again. Two large stages will mark the two ends of the festival, sandwiching a host of vendors hawking food, jewelry, artists’ paintings and much more.

Where: 18th St (between Columbia Rd. and Florida Avenue NW)
Metro: Woodley Park, Red Line
Takoma Park Folk Festival will have seven stages filled with a variety of acts. The sounds will range from afrobeats, bass-driven neo soul, Japanese drumming to “power-folk’n Americana”. This year’s festival will honor Woodie Guthrie’s 100th birthday.

Where: Takoma Park Middle School, 7611 Piney Branch Road, Takoma, Md.
