Union Market, the city’s newest fancy food market, opened yesterday in Northeast. DCist checked it out this afternoon. All of the vendors were not yet present, but it’ll be exciting to see this space blossom in the coming months.

And, of course, I couldn’t resist the free ice cream tasting festivities. The D.C. Scoop also held the dessert battle at Union Market. Each guest was given three tickets to taste the variety of flavors carried by 13 ice cream, custard and sorbet vendors.

The winner wasn’t announced before I left, but thanks to the positive aspects of social media, Union Market’s Facebook page updated us with the winner —Sinplicity Ice Cream! Based on the food truck’s very long lines, it seemed like this would have been the crowd favorite. Congrats!
