Are you a budding writer? A D.C. resident with a passion for news, arts or sports? Or maybe just someone who’s really curious and wants to help uncover some of the hidden surprises in the city? If you’re any of these, we’d love to have you come aboard as a contributor.

DCist has been around since 2005, and since then our team of contributors have taken what free time they have during the day to write about the city and region around them. Some have done it as a hobby, others have made it a profession. Either way, we’re looking for news voices to add to the DCist roster, and you could well be one of those.

While we’re interested in just about anyone, we’d love writers with the following interests:

>> Arts & Entertainment: Have a passion for the arts, whether museums, exhibits or theater? We’re looking for contributors to let our readers know what’s out there, what’s worth seeing and what best to avoid.

>> Food: D.C. is becoming a town of foodies, and we want someone with a passion for local restaurants, bars, food trucks, farmers’ markets, and the out-of-the-way culinary gems to help us find the tastiest bites in the city and region.

>> Sports: We’ve got roller derby and D.C. United covered, but there’s plenty of other teams out there that we’d like to better report on. If you’ve got a passion for the Nats, the Caps, the ‘Skins, or any other team in the region, we’re looking for your critical analysis, hopeful predictions and soul-crushing admissions of defeat.

If you’re interested, feel free to send me an email at write (at) dcist (dot) com. You don’t have to be a trained writer or seasoned journalist; you just need a passion for your beat. Feel free to send clips or ideas, but no need to include résumés, references or letters from Mom swearing that your writing is the best. And just so you know, these positions are unpaid, but they do offer some on-the-job perks and a nice way to add to your portfolio.
