Have you stopped to appreciate the wonder in marvelous things right under your nose? The historical travel show, Up To Speed, A Hulu Original Series hosted by tour guide extraordinaire Timothy “Speed” Levitch and directed by Richard Linklater, will take you on an eye-opening journey. One of Speed’s many entertaining stops is Virginia—watch the full episode on Hulu.
While you can follow Speed to UVA and Monticello, we have a few of our own interesting less-expected D.C. attractions. For instance, why would you visit D.C. and not visit those steps made famous from The Exorcist?
Based on William Peter Blatty’s novel, The Exorcist was set in Blatty’s old alma mater, Georgetown University, and was inspired by an alleged 1949 exorcism Blatty heard about during his college days. At the film’s climax (SPOILER BEGINS), Father Karras manages to throw his demon-possessed body out a window, falling onto the stairs (which connect Prospect Street with M Street) to his death. (END SPOILER) One recent visitor recommends heading there, “If you can do 20 sets of these up and down in 20 minutes – you’re a very conditioned athlete. Good quick workout.”
