Stars, like Metric, have broken free of being classified as just parts of the Broken Social Scene sum, but since their breakthrough record Set Yourself On Fire, their hit percentage has been quite spotty. The band either swing too epic (In Our Bedroom After The War) or too mellow (The Five Ghosts). While neither record could be considered a disaster, each had only a handful of standout tracks. This year’s The North is more focused than their previous efforts and occasionally reclaims the highs of Set Yourself On Fire.
The band, who play a sold-out show at 9:30 Club this Sunday with the always amazing Diamond Rings, teamed up with their tourmate to remix each others new material. Today’s song of the day is Diamond Rings’ remix of The North highlight (and best song, in my opinion) “The Theory Of Relativity.” Diamond Rings adds to the already bouncy track, his signature ’80s flair while pushing Amy Millan’s chorus into the background with heavy echo.
Stars play Sunday Night with California Wives and Diamond Rings at the 9:30 Club. Tickets are sold-out.
