BEER, BARBECUE, BIRTHDAY: Smoke and Barrel (2471 18th Street NW), the craft beer, bourbon and barbecue haunt in Adams Morgan where more than a few DCist writers spend many off-duty hours, is celebrating its first anniversary tonight with $5 drafts and $5 half-slabs of ribs all night.

THE STATE OF THINGS: Troubled by D.C.’s elected leaders? The Washington Post (1150 15th Street NW) is hosting a public forum tonight on corruption and accountability featuring a panel that includes Posties Robert McCartney and Clinton Yates, WAMU’s Kojo Nnamdi, D.C. Chamber of Commerce President Barbara Lang and former Councilmember Carol Schwartz. Free. Doors open 6 p.m.

THE STATE OF THINGS, WITH DRINKS: If lively discourse about civic affairs is your thing, but you’d rather not do it at stodgy old 15th and L, there’s also Humanitini, a policy salon at Tabaq Bistro and Bar (1336 U Street NW). Washington City Paper Editor Mike Madden moderates a discussion on development and gentrification (and maybe swagger-jacking) by a panel that includes former Mayor Tony Williams. Begins 6 p.m.

MOAR BEER: Port City Brewing Company, the Alexandria-based brewery, is taking over the draught lines at Iron Horse Taproom (507 Seventh Street NW) with six of its tasty beers, including the Derecho Common. Starts 6 p.m.
