Police roped off a block of Connecticut Avenue NW just north of Dupont Circle after a bank was robbed and the suspect left behind a suspicious package that authorities are still investigating.
Shortly before noon, a man held up the TD Bank branch at 1753 Connecticut Avenue after demanding money from a teller, police said. The bank was quickly evacuated, with some bank employees sitting petrified outside their workplace.
On his way out of the branch, the suspect dropped a parcel. Police responding to the scene taped off the area and closed down the 1700 block of Connecticut Avenue—between R and S streets—in both directions.
Police described the suspect as a white male wearing a blue suit and blue cap who was last seen heading toward S Street NW on foot. It is unknown if the suspect is armed.
