U Street Music Hall, D.C.’s premier dance club, has been diversifying since partnering with 9:30 Club to book shows. Still, it seems really weird that tonight’s show is one of indie rock’s finest sleaze rock bands, the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion.
The band called off its hiatus recently and after unloading its vast vaults with reissues, a retrospective and various live albums. Spencer and his merrymakers recorded this year’s fabulous Meat and Bone, and today’s song of the day is the single from their new album, “Black Mold.” It is skuzzy dirty rock and roll that is perfect to bash around to—so, classic Jon Spencer.
Jon Spencer Blues Explosion plays tonight at U Street Music Hall. Tickets are $22– and worth every penny.
