DANCE: The annual Velocity DC Dance Festival is back tonight at Shakespeare Theater Company’s Sidney Harman Hall (610 F Street NW), offering the opportunity to see a dozen area dance groups, including the Washington Ballet and Step Afrika, performing a wide selection of dance styles, including ballet, flamenco, modern, and step. Oh, and did we mention they’ll be puppies?! The festival begins this Thursday and continues through Sunday, October 21. 8:00 p.m. Tickets: $18.

STORYTELLING: Tonight The Anecdote takes over the Room and Board furniture store (1840 14th St NW – 4th Floor) for “Stories about Being an Accessory to…” Come get under the covers, gather around the table, and get comfy on the couch as storytellers regale you with tales of being an accomplice to murder, crime, ponzi schemes, failed romance and more. 7-9 p.m. $10. MUSEUM PARTY: The National Museum of African Art (950 Independence Avenue SW) presents
A Star Party: Cocktails Under African Skies, an evening of sparkling stars and sparkling wine. Explore the museum’s African Cosmos: Stellar Arts exhibit, hear curator talks, move to the beat of an African drum circle, and take part in interactive activities and crafts. 6:30-9:00 p.m. $50 in advance, $55 at the door.

BEER: Scion’s (2100 P Street NW) Fall Beer Festival tonight will feature over 30 Oktoberfest and pumpkin beers, with over 20 on draft and 10 in bottles (DCBeer has a list of most of what will be available). Seasonal beers will be $3 off all night. 5:00-11:30 p.m.

MUSIC: The Divine Fits, made up of Spoon’s Britt Daniel, Wolf Parade/Handsome Furs’ Dan Boeckner, and the drummer of New Bomb Turks, performs at the 9:30 Club (815 V Street NW). 7:00 p.m. $20.
