The Ballston Commons Mall in Arlington was evacuated earlier today after a person dropped a Molotov cocktail on the food court, police said. The incident occurred about noon when the suspect, standing on a walkway overlooking the food court, threw a 40-ounce glass bottle filled gasoline and capped with a homemade fuse.

No fire or explosion broke out and no one was injured when the bottle shattered on impact, police said. But the mall was promptly cleared out with several surrounding roads, including high-traffic Wilson Boulevard, closed off with a large-scale investigation underway.

Three more Molotov cocktails were found near the location from which the suspect threw the initial bottle, police said.

Arlington Polices spokesman Dustin Sternbeck says the suspect, described as a black male wearing a gray jacket, remains at large after leaving the mall on foot. The Arlington Fire Department, Arlington County fire marshal and FBI also responded to the scene, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms has also been made aware of the incident.

UPDATE: Police have a suspect who meets the description in custody and are currently questioning him, Sternbeck says.
