King Tuff is an underground garage rock legend. Having spent time in bands like Witch (which featured J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr) and other projects, Tuff made a lot of connections, but eventually went solo. He released his 2008 debut Was Dead on a small label Burger Records but is now getting some well deserved attention with his latest S/T album released this spring on Sub Pop. Tuff has the appeal of cheap beer in sweaty basements where the music is all good vibes, and his shows embody that good natured fun. Today’s song of the day “Bad Thing” is a great slice of garage-pop with Tuff’s nasally vocal pushed to a scream.

King Tuff plays tonight with The Intelligence and Poor Moon at the Black Cat. Tickets $12.
