>> The region is still bracing for what some are calling “Frankenstorm” and others merely Hurricane Sandy, but for now it remains unclear how hard the D.C. region will be hit. Local governments are sitting around waiting to see what happens, though: D.C., Maryland and Virginia have all declared states of emergency ahead of the storm’s landfall, which could come late Sunday or early Monday.

>> Election Day is just over a week away, and today the Post covers the challengers in the city’s most exciting race: the contest for two At-Large seats on the D.C. Council. There’s independents David Grosso, Leon Swain and A.J. Cooper; Republican Mary Brooks Beatty; and Statehood Green Ann Wilcox. Recent polling has found Grosso running somewhat even with incumbent Councilmember Michael A. Brown (I-At Large), but that still leaves the rest of the challengers hoping to knock off Councilmember Vincent Orange (D-At Large).
