The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority might remain open tomorrow, but if you were planning on utilizing any other form of public transportation tomorrow, forget it. Amtrak, Virginia Rail Express and Maryland Area Regional Commuter trains won’t be running tomorrow, and several intercity bus lines have also canceled their services.
Beginning at 7 p.m. tonight, Amtrak will shut down its entire Northeast Corridor between D.C. and Boston, canceling all trains scheduled on the Acela Express, Northeast Regional, Keystone, Ethan Allen and other lines that East Coast commuters rely upon. Additionally, several westbound and southbound trains like the Capitol Limited to Chicago and Silver Meteor to Miami have been suspended.
For regional commuters, MARC and VRE trains won’t be running tomorrow, and MARC said it would make a decision about service on Tuesday by 8 p.m. tomorrow.
Greyhound is suspending all service in and out of D.C. and Baltimore at 7 p.m. tonight and has not suggested when buses might start running again. The low-cost lines BoltBus and Megabus have also canceled all trips in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic tomorrow. (BoltBus has canceled its Tuesday runs, too.)
And thousands of flights tonight and tomorrow have already been canceled. The airline tracking website FlightAware.com estimates that nearly 6,800 flights between Washington and New York have been called off, with 482 cancellations alone at Dulles International Airport. United will also be closing its hub operation at Dulles later this evening.
